Multi-million rand signing-on bonus may be at centre of AngloGold CEO's abrupt departure

The fallout from a $800 000 (R11.6 million*) sign-on cash payment that one of the world's largest gold miners, AngloGold Ashanti, made to the CEO it headhunted from a rival, may have been the actual reason behind his unexpected resignation just two years after taking the job.

Kelvin Dushnisky joined AngloGold, the world's third largest gold miner by production, as CEO on September 1 2018, from its Canadian rival Barrick Gold. He moved to Johannesburg to replace Srinivasan Venkatakrishnan, who left after five years as CEO to take up a role in London at diversified miner Vedanta Resources.
