Cape Town -Demi Lovato has landed herself in hot water.

The Give Your Heart a Break singer ran into trouble on Sunday night after she commented on memes about 21 Savage, E! Online reports.

“So far 21 Savage memes have been my favourite part of the Super Bowl,” she wrote.

ICYMI, the British rapper, whose real name is Sha Yaa Bin Abraham-Joseph, was arrested in the US by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on Sunday for allegedly overstaying his visa, CNN reports.

21 Savage reportedly entered the US legally when he was a minor in July 2005, but he failed to leave under the terms of his visa. He now faces deportation.

Rapper Wale came to 21 Savage’s defence writing: “Why is somebody freedom funny . . . I don’t get the joke.”

In response, Demi criticised Wale, calling him “salty”.

“Wale just salty I never replied to his desperate tweets years ago.”

The 26-year-old songstress tried clarifying her tweet but later deleted the social media app, Variety reports.

“Wasn’t laughing at anyone getting deported,” Lovato wrote. “Sorry if I offended anyone. But it’s no excuse to laugh at someone’s addiction let alone their OD.

“I was laughing at who the f**k knew 21 was British? Literally no one.

“That’s it. It doesn’t go deeper than that. I’m sorry if I upset people truly.”
