Cape Town - Jennifer Lopez has admitted she doesn’t think she would’ve had a “successful relationship” with her partner if they’d met earlier in her life.

JLo (49) has been dating former New York Yankees baseball star Alex Rodriguez (43) since early 2017.

In a new interview with Harper's Bazaar for the February issue, the entertainment industry powerhouse said that it’s no accident her past relationships didn’t work out.

“For me, the relationship journey has been very up and down. But it didn’t have to do with anybody else but me – it was about me figuring out me.”

Jennifer went on to say that they probably would’ve struggled to stay together when they were younger.

“Until you learn to love yourself, you can’t completely love [someone else] in a way that’s pure and true,” she told the magazine.

“Once you do that, you can have relationships that are based on love and respect, that are supportive and nourishing.”

In the past, Jennifer dated rap mogul Sean “P Diddy” Combs, was married to her backup dancer Cris Judd, was engaged to Hollywood actor Ben Affleck, was married to Latin music hitmaker Marc Anthony and had an on-off fling with backup dancer Casper Smart.

And although fans might still be waiting on that elusive engagement announcement, it seems Jen and A-Rod are in it for the long haul without a marriage certificate. They’ve blended their families together and reportedly started house hunting.

Last month, JLo told Today that Alex brought something into her life that she’s never had before.

“Kind of an unconditional support and love, kind of a matching of twin souls. That’s a different thing for me; now I know what it’s like to be with me.”
