Cape Town - It seems Julia Roberts can take partial credit for Meghan Markle’s acting career.

In a 2017 profile in Glamour magazine, the Duchess of Sussex listed the women who positively influenced her life. Among them were her mother, Doria Ragland, and Hollywood star Julia Roberts, People reports.

“She was the first person I saw on screen and thought, ‘That looks like so much fun; I wanna do that’,” Meghan told Glamour.

“When I was younger, someone once told me, ‘You kind of look like Julia Roberts in profile”. It was the best compliment of all time,” she said.

Roberts was surprised to learn she’d inspired the royal. The 51-year-old actress, who was in New York on Monday promoting her latest film Ben Is Back, told People magazine she was unaware of Markle’s admiration, instyle.com reports.

“It’s a great night for me!”

“But I’m just going to be floating on that all night!” she exclaimed.

This comes after Julia’s recent statement that she doesn’t regard herself as a "film actor" because she's just interested in great roles, no matter the platform, reports msn.com.

"I've never called myself a film actor, I'm just an actor. I go where the parts compel me and I don't know that a lot of creative people would compartmentalise their places to be creative in that way.

"We're all just looking for the thing we think we can bring something of value to. It's not really the medium so much that’s pursued," she told Bang Showbiz.
