Cape Town - Stevie Wonder announced that he’ll be undergoing a kidney transplant later this year.
During his concert in London on Saturday night, the legendary singer told his fans he’ll be taking a break from performing so that he can receive a kidney transplant in September, CNN reports.
“So what’s gonna happen is, I’m going to have surgery. I’m going to have a kidney transplant in September of this year,” 69-year-old Stevie says.
“I’m all good, I’m all good. I have a donor, it’s all good. I want you to know I came here to give you my love and to thank you for your love. You don’t have to worry about rumors. I told you what’s up. I’m good, all right?”
The Fingertips hitmaker didn’t disclose additional medical information, CBS reports.
Last week the Detroit Free Press reported that the singer was suffering from a “serious but manageable health issue” and had been touring with a medical team onboard.
“He’s got some health challenges, but he doesn’t want a big PR thing out of this,” Joan Belgrave, a longtime friend of the singer told the online site.
"He’s got people around him who love him. He’s got his team – that’s what he needs.”
Despite his health issues, Stevie plans on completing his world tour, Rolling Stone reports.
