Cape Town – Prince Harry and Meghan have reportedly been invited to present at the Oscars.

The royal couple, who recently stepped down as senior members of the royal family, made their first official public appearance on Thursday in Miami since the queen's announcement that their decision will see them lose royal funds and their HRH titles. They turned down the invitation to attend the 92nd Academy Awards though, which is set to take place on 9 February.

"They were honoured by the request, but declined the invitation," a source said, according to HELLO! Magazine.

The invitation and possible appearance would make sense for the royal couple who are now "financially independent" and able to make appearances without the constraints they had before. Prince William has been president of the Baftas for ten years now, so the idea of Prince Harry and Meghan getting involved with the Academy isn't too far off. And we're sure Hollywood would welcome the Duke and Duchess of Sussex with open arms.

Brad Pitt did specially mention Harry – even if it was in a cheeky comment – when he won the Bafta for his role in Once Upon A Time in Hollywood on 2 February.

In his acceptance speech, read out by Margot Robbie in his absence, the Bombshell actress said of the Bafta, "He says he's going to name this Harry, 'cause he is really happy about bringing it back to the States with him."

So if not this year, the 93rd Academy Awards then? Fingers crossed.
