On Sunday evening Queen Elizabeth addressed the UK, and the rest of the Commonwealth as the world battles the coronavirus pandemic – it was only her fifth such speech to the nation, highlighting the significance of the ongoing crisis.

In the televised broadcast she said: "We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return. We will be with our friends again; we will be with our families again; we will meet again."

An estimated 24 million viewers watched the address, reports BBC, making it the second most-watched broadcast this year, beaten only by the 27 million who tuned into Boris Johnson's statement announcing the new coronavirus restrictions for the country.

The 24 million people who tuned in on Sunday were inspired by one other rather specific thing though: the queen's attire.

Shortly after the broadcast, globally searches for the colour green spiked by 52 per cent from the previous week, according to Lyst. Brooches by 115%.

Other popular items from the past week include scarves and statement earrings, which a massive spike in search for tiger, leopard and zebra prints. The data aggregation site gave props to the ever-popular Netflix docu-series Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness for that last one.

If anything these stats proves people are looking to find some sort of normalcy while on lockdown in their homes across the globe. Whether it's online shopping, a brand new, engrossing series or the feelings evoked by the queen's speech, they're looking for an escape.

Colour expert, Kate Smith shared why the queen may have chosen green for her address in an interview with People. "Green is the colour of healing, nature, balance, and good health, which is just what is needed right now. Physically, the colour green has a relaxing, calming effect on our bodies. Whatever the reason, it was a great choice."
