Cape Town - Now that Thomas Markle has revealed that he won’t be walking Meghan down the aisle, there’s speculation that Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, will be doing the honours.
This comes after the former Hollywood lighting director allegedly staged his recent pictures with a British paparazzo – and was paid for them.
The 73-year-old told TMZ that he is due to have heart surgery on Wednesday after suffering a heart attack last week.
“They [doctors] will go in and clear blockage, repair damage and put a stent where it’s needed,” he said.
If Doria walks Meghan down the aisle, it wouldn’t be the first time a royal bride is walked down the aisle by her mother. After the death of Prince Albert, Queen Victoria walked two of her daughters down the aisle, Daily Mail reports.
She also walked her third daughter, Princess Helena, down the aisle when she wed Prince Christian of Schleswig-Holstein in 1866 at Windsor Castle.
Victoria also gave away her youngest daughter, Princess Beatrice, at St Mildred’s Church, Whippingham, on the Isle of Wight, in 1885.
Doria, a yoga instructor and social worker, will be meeting royal family including the Queen, Prince Charles, Prince Philip, and Kate Middleton this week and the odds are looking like she’ll be walking her 36-year-old daughter down the aisle on Saturday.
Kensington Palace has yet to confirm who will be accompanying the former Suits actress down the aisle, but a spokesperson has addressed rumours of Thomas Markle’s sudden absence from the wedding.
“She [Meghan] and Prince Harry ask again for understanding and respect to be extended to Mr Markle in this difficult situation,” a palace spokesperson said.
According to US Weekly, it was rumoured earlier this year that Meghan wanted her mother to give her away.
“I’ve heard that Meghan wants her mother to walk her down the aisle, which would be a sweet moment,” a close source says.
