Cape Town – The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are currently in Ireland undertaking their first official overseas trip as a married couple.
Prince Harry and Meghan arrived in Dublin on Tuesday, following their appearance with the rest of the royal family at the Royal Air Force centenary celebrations.
The couple were welcomed with a warm reception hosted by the British Embassy in Ireland, where they met members of the community including Irish Rugby legend Brian O’Driscoll.
Later the couple were treated to a garden party at British Ambassador Robin Barnett’s official residence in Dublin.
The couple mingled with guests including Irish writer, academic and broadcaster Sinead Burke.
In a speech at the garden party, Harry said of his and Meghan’s trip: “We’re so pleased to be here, for our first official international visit together as a married couple, and we hope it will be the first of many!”
Speaking about the relationship between England and Ireland, Harry said: “I have the greatest confidence that the friendship, collaboration and mutual understanding that our two countries have built up over the years will endure and it will grow.
“We draw strength from one another as neighbours, partners, and above all friends.”
On Wednesday the couple will visit Trinity College, where they will see the Book of Kells, one of Ireland's greatest cultural treasures. They will also have a moment for reflection at the Famine Memorial, before visiting EPIC, the Irish Emigration Museum.
Harry and Meghan are also scheduled to visit DogPatch Labs, a co-working space for technology start-ups where they will meet children and young people taking part in free coding workshops, as well as female tech entrepreneurs.
