PICS: Zozibini Tunzi leaves for Miss Universe pageant: 'I just hope I do South Africa proud'

Johannesburg – On Tuesday fans and family members of Miss SA Zozibini Tunzi gathered at O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg to bid the beauty queen farewell as she jetted off to the United States for the Miss Universe pageant. 

Zozibini will represent South Africa on the international platform in hopes of bringing the title home. 

Speaking to Channel24 at her national costume reveal a few days prior, the 26-year-old said she is excited to showcase everything she has been working on. 

This year the pageant will take place on 8 December in Atlanta, Georgia, at Tyler Perry's film studio

South Africans can catch all the action live by tuning into 1 Magic (DStv 103) at 02:00 on Monday 9 December. 

In a statement released to the press on Tuesday, Zozibini thanked South Africans for their continued support as she said her goodbyes. 

"I am so grateful for the love that I have received since being crowned Miss South Africa. I'm especially delighted by the wonderful messages of encouragement, wishing me good luck as I embark on this most thrilling adventure. I'm super excited. I just hope that I do South Africa proud," she said, adding: "What more do I need other than the backing of South Africans? When we all stand together, we are unstoppable. Yes! I think I'm all set."
