Netflix has released the first trailer for the South African film Riding With Sugar. Seventeen years in the making, the film is written and directed by Cannes Lions Gold Winner, Sunu Gonera.
This uniquely African story is a coming-of-age, feel-good ride about a refugee's quest for BMX glory.
The film centres on Joshua (Charles Mnene), a refugee who dreams of winning a cycling championship to find a better life, but an accident shatters his dreams. He is given shelter and a job by Mambo (Hakeem Kae-Kazim) who houses refugee teenagers from all over Africa. When Joshua meets Olivia (Simona Brown), a dancer from a well-off family, it brings him into a world he has never known before, but her insights cast a shadow over Mambo's agenda.
