  • Like many other festivals in 2020, Afropunk has made the move online.
  • The popular festival, which showcases art, fashion and live music produced by Black artists, has taken on the theme: 'Planet Afropunk: Past, Present and Future is Black'.
  • The online event will be free to the global Afropunk audience.

Afropunk is the latest festival to go virtual in 2020.

The festival, which showcases art, fashion, and live music produced by Black artists, has taken on the theme: 'Planet Afropunk: Past, Present and Future is Black' for the online event.

"This festival pays homage to the reality that the upheavals we've gone through over the course of the year are far from novel; they have been central to the Black experience across space and time, which is recognized in this year's theme [sic]," an article on the Afropunk website reads.

According to the site, fans should expect "music and art, with the opportunity to circulate the Black dollar and support Black-owned businesses, as well as many in-depth conversations."

The festival, which will take place from 23 to 25 October, will be "a completely free virtual experience for its entire global audience."

Attendees will be given the option to donate money to several organisations, including Movement for Black Lives, Equal Justice Initiative and Black Futures Lab.

The line-up for the 2020 show will be announced in the coming weeks, and is said to include artists from around the world.

Details on how to register for the free virtual festival can be found on the Planet Afropunk website.
