Limpopo tunes dominate the charts on Spotify as region's native languages enjoy increased visibility

Proudly Limpopo tunes enjoyed its time in the sun as musicians from the region topped the charts among listeners, Spotify data reported.

Tsa Manyalo artists Pleasure Tsa Manyalo and Maredi Maredi reportedly led the troop as Khelobedu, Sepedi, xiTsonga and tshiVenda gained popularity via the music streaming platform's Limpopo Way playlist.

According to the data, Pleasure Tsa Manyalo and Maredi Maredi enjoyed peaks in their streaming numbers following wedding episodes on SABC 1's Skeem Saam in December.

The peaks also coincided with celebrations other than weddings, with millennials being a major driver in the increased number of streams.

Though native to Limpopo, the musicians' music also proved popular in other parts of the country, namely Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Cape Town.
