Cape Town – Meghan Markle's got a long list of celebrity friends, so it's no surprise that one of them was given the privilege of being Archie's godmother.

When the littlest royal was born in May, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex opted for a private christening and have chosen to give Archie as normal a life as possible for a royal to properly grow into the big boy he's becoming.

With this came the decision not to divulge who Archie's godparents are, according to Kensington Palace, even though it's considered a matter of public record by the Church of England.

Of course, regardless of the utterly justified reason behind keeping Archie's godparents – of which there are typically five – a secret, the couple received quite a bit of backlash for their decision.

Katie Nicholl speculated then that two of Meghan's dearest friends, Lindsay Roth and Genevieve Hills, may take on the role of Archie's godmothers, while Harry's confidant and mentor Mark Dyer may take on the role of godfather.

The Vanity Fair royal correspondent may have recently let the name of at least one godparent slip though. In her coverage of Meghan's Smart Set Capsule Collection launch, she said, "There to support her [Meghan] was her close friend and Archie's godmother Isabel May, who had a front row seat..."

According to Express, Isabel is the former director of communication for Burberry and was introduced to Meghan by mutual friend and Soho House director, Markus Anderson.

Meghan and Isabel have been friends ever since, with Izzy playing a big part in helping Meghan adjust to her royal life in the UK.

According to the Daily Mail, Isabel was also seated in the second row – ahead of Serena Willaims, Oprah and George and Amal Clooney – when she attended Harry and Meghan's wedding, signifying, perhaps, her closeness to the Duchess of Sussex.

So why haven't we heard of Isabel before?

An insider said, "Izzy is one of Meghan's dearest and closest friends and she values her friendship so very much. Izzy keeps their relationship really quiet and very much under the radar.

"Meghan relied on her a lot. They are just like any two young female friends. They totally support one another and enjoy lots of social activities together."
