Harry Styles doesn't want to be part of 'The Little Mermaid's' world

Cape Town – Harry Styles will not play Prince Eric in Disney's live-action remake of The Little Mermaid.

In July it was reported that the singer was in talks to play the dashing prince opposite Halle Bailey, who will play Ariel in the upcoming film.

According to Variety, the former One Direction member turned down the role and decided to move on amicably, and that news of his casting was announced prematurely.

The studio will now continue its search for the role and with a decision expected to be made shortly.

Production of the film directed by Rob Marshal is set to begin early in 2020. The new film will feature original songs from the 1989 animation and new songs from composer Alan Menken and Lin-Manuel Miranda.

Melissa McCarthy is rumoured to be playing the villain, Ursula.

ABC announced earlier this month that it will be doing a live Little Mermaid event set to air on television.
