Lifetime announces release date for controversial Oscar Pistorius movie in SA

Cape Town – Lifetime Africa on Monday announced an official local release date for the controversial Oscar Pistorius film

Oscar Pistorius: Blade Runner Killer will air on Lifetime (DStv channel 131) on Saturday 18 November at 20:00.

The made-for-television movie, written by Amber Benson and co-produced by ThinkFactory Media, centres on the night Oscar shot dead Reeva Steenkamp.

The role of Oscar will be played by Andreas Damm, whilst Toni Garrn will portray Reeva.

Both the Pistorius and Steenkamp families were furious last month when the first trailer of the film was released online.

"The 'film' was made with blatant disregard of both the Steenkamp and Pistorius families, as well as complete disregard for Reeva and Oscar. Neither Oscar, the defence or the family were involved in the production of this ‘film’ in anyway," Oscar’s brother Carl said in a statement to the media.

Tania Koen, the Steenkamp family’s lawyer, said: “It was specifically shocking for Barry who found out about the film via a link that someone sent him on Facebook. They were and still are very upset. Understandably, it’s very shocking. Especially since the movie is meant to be from the perspective from June and Reeva and they weren’t contacted at all. There was no input.”

Lifetime in its statement on Monday said “the families of Oscar and Reeva did not participate in the making of this movie”.
