Cape Town - A 15-year-old South African boy has managed to grab to attention of A-list American artists with his breath-taking voice.

Likhwithemba 'Likhey' Booi from Port Elizabeth got American actress Taraji P Henson lost for words after she heard him sing in a video she subsequently shared on her Instagram page. That’s when he got noticed by other artists such as: singer Erykah Badu and Melanie Fiona.

"I have no idea who this baby is but I’m just grateful that this was on my timeline! @likheylk I pray that the WORLD hears you from today until forever! May all your dreams COME TRUE," Taraji posted on her Instagram page.

South African muso Dumza Maswana, who is Likhey’s friend and mentor told Move! he took the video in April as a promo for his show and posted it on Twitter. That’s how it went viral before Inayah Lamis came across it on They Have The Range, a media platform for amazing singers.

Speaking to Move! Likhey’s proud father Kholisile Booi says his boy still doesn’t quite understand what a big deal it is for international celebrities to celebrate him.

"Dumza showed me the video and we told him about this. He asked us why him. We told him that we don’t know," he shares with a chuckle.

Likhey’s talent runs in the family. Both his parent and siblings are also good singers. His father says Likhey got bitten by the music bug at the tender age of eight when he used to watch his parents sing.

Despite the attention that he has been getting for his talent, his father and mother Nosiphiwo Booi want their boy to continue with school.

"We support all the things he loves to do. He has a great future. But we need to balance that with a good educational background. We don’t want him to leave school. We want him to go to a musical school so that he can be encouraged. But we also don’t him to miss opportunities," he says.

Dumza says his son can’t see himself doing anything else as a career other than music.

"He wants to be a musician," he says.

He adds that they’re looking at the options of kickstarting his career professional by getting a record deal and have an album. However, in that same breath, he stresses the importance of education.

Likhey has only three years left before he finishes high school. He’s been busy performing with the likes of Dumza and Samthing Soweto whenever the chance avails itself. But we’ll have to wait a little longer for a full album if his parents’ wishes are anything to go by.
