Cape Town - Lize Mynhardt will go down in Idols history as the one contestant who made stoic judge Randall crack a smile and sing along. Not once. But twice.
The 21-year-old student from Stellenbosch continued to blow away the judges and the voting public with her consistent performances every week taking her to the top 3.
Sadly her journey came to an end just before the big finale.
We spoke to Lize about her journey and what’s next.
Channel24:
You made Randall break his cool when he sang along with you at your audition. What did it feel like?
Lize:
It was absolutely incredible! I wasn’t expecting it. Going into such a big first time audition I didn’t know what to expect. It totally put me at ease and made me feel confident about my audition. It still hasn’t sunk in that Randall actually sang with me. It was a very special moment.
Channel24:
You were so close to winning, do you think you could have done anything differently to stay in the game?
Lize:
No, I don’t think that I could do anything different. The songs I chose were a wide variety that appealed to everyone and I stayed true to myself. I enjoyed every moment.
Channel24:
What's one song you would have loved to perform on Idols that you didn't get to?
Lize:
The song I would have performed last night, Fire by Bruce Springsteen.
Channel24:
Who was your favourite celebrity mentor?
Lize:
Gorgon City, they’re huge and international and they gave really good advice.
Channel24:
What are you future plans? Will you continue your studies?
Lize:
For now I’m going to do the singing thing full-time. I’ll still keep my credits and I will go back to finish my degree once I’m done with music.
