Cape Town - After setting a viewership record of 10,2 million, Mzansi’s most-watched show is set to deliver yet another drama-filled season. But, unfortunately, viewers will also have to say goodbye to some cast members.

As season 4 of Uzalo draws to a close, it’s been announced that Nay Maps, Nokuthula Mabika and Glen Gabela won’t return for season 5 next February.

Nay Maps played Mxolisi Mdletshe, a young man who grew up in his father’s shady dealings, violence, dodgy dealings and police run-ins. So Mxolisi is determined to distance himself from the family business.

Nokuthula played Thobile on the show. Thobile is fun, street-wise and sly but is often undermined because she’s bubbly and fun-loving. She’s the queen of malapropisms and did nails at Nkule’s hair salon.

Meanwhile, Glen joined the cast as the new Mfundisi Mdletshe

Head writer of the soapie Bongi Ndaba told DRUM, “Season 4 brought incredible evolution and riveting storylines to our screens, and our incredible cast delivered over and above every time.”

She added that the team was grateful for the energy produced and the cast members’ dedication.

“We’re so grateful for the golden energy and dedication Nay Maps, Nokuthula and Glen Gabela brought to Uzalo – they breathed life into their characters and have been a major part of 2018’s success. Saying goodbye to these characters and actors is so hard, and we do so by wishing them all the best going forward and have no doubt they will continue to deliver their magic on our screens.”

It’s out with the old and in with the new when new faces join the SABC1 soapie next year. We’ll see the character Lilly (played by Noxolo Mathula) grow from being an on-call character to a principal cast member and the show will bring on some undiscovered talent, like newcomers Thuthuka Mthembu and Nkanyiso Makhanya.
