Cape Town - Singer Bryan Adams finally addressed longstanding rumours about a romance with the late Princess Diana.

In an appearance on Watch What Happens Live, the 58-year-old was grilled by host Andy Cohen in a round of “Plead the Fifth”.

The host questioned the Summer of 69 singer about claims made by Diana’s former butler Paul Burrell, who said Bryan would occasionally sneak into Kensington Palace.

"There are many rumours that you and Princess Diana were once romantically involved. Her butler said that he used to sneak you into Kensington Palace," said Andy.

"How would you characterise your relationship with Princess Diana?”

"She didn't sneak me in. I would just roll up," Bryan said in response.

As for their relationship, the Canadian rock star says he was just good friends with the Princess of Wales.

"Friends with benefits?" Andy insisted.

"She was just . . . We were good friends," Bryan quickly responded.

According to E! Online, the Heaven singer’s former girlfriend Cecilie Thomsen has also spoken of an affair, reportedly saying the musician had an affair with Diana in 1996.

Back in 1985 the singer also released a song called Diana, which fans were adamant was about Lady Di.

The track was pulled from his touring set in 1997 after the tragic passing of Diana in a car accident in Paris, reports Metro News.
