Cape Town - If you were hoping the jewellers who manufactured Meghan Markle’s engagement ring could make you something similar with which to pop the big question, you need to think again.
Stephen Connelly, director of Cleave & Company Court Jewellers who created the ring, told HELLO! magazine the company wouldn’t be making replicas of the sought-after item.
“If you want a ring, we can make you something different,” he said earlier this week after countless fans requested replicas of Meghan’s exquisite piece of jewellery.
The jeweller who worked on the item, David Thomas, said that the special project was definitely one of the most difficult to keep a secret.
Prince Harry had the ring, which is made of yellow gold and three diamonds, specially made for his future wife.
One diamond came from Botswana, the country where the couple vacationed together for the first time. The other two are from the jewellery collection of his late mother, Diana.
The prince had designed the ring himself.
There are, however, other jewellery shops selling cheaper versions of the ring, reports British newspaper Express. Diamond Heaven in England is selling a similar one for £1 280 (about R24 000).
The 33-year-old prince and 36-year-old actress confirmed their romance shortly before of their engagement November, and plan to marry in May next year.
