Throughout his journey on the South African airwaves, Aki Anastasiou has covered various elections, pivotal events and got listeners to work on time with traffic reports.

If he had his way, he’d still be doing what he loved – but he’s hanging up his mic after being retrenched at Primedia, which owns 702.

The radio icon admits that after three decades on the airwaves it felt weird to say goodbye. For his final slot on-air, he was broadcasting from his home because of lockdown – so he wasn’t even with any of his colleagues.
