Following Serena’s beautiful note to her child, she found herself having to respond to offensive remarks about the race of her unborn baby.
According to E! News the racially-charged comments were made by Romanian tennis captain, Ilie Nastase, in a press conference held at the Fed Cup in Romania.
Serena took to Instagram to share a lengthy message, voicing her disappointment in his recent remarks.
In a note she wrote: “It disappoints me to know we live in a society where people like Ilie Nastase can make such racist comments towards myself and unborn child, and sexist comments against my peers.
“I have said it once and I'll say it again, this world has come so far but yet we have so much further to go. Yes, we have broken down so many barriers—however there are a plethora more to go.
Serena added that these comments will not break her down and she will continue to stand up for what’s right, she then quoted Maya Angelous's poem, Still I Rise.
