8 testosterone fuelled flicks from 2016 you gotta watch

Cape Town – Skop, skiet and donner seems a fitting way to describe 2016. It’s been a pretty hectic year so far.

Even at the cinema things got a bit rough with thrilling action dramas leading the pack at the box office. From Jake Gyllenhaal to Mel Gibson, Hollywood’s A-list men came out full force to add some punch to the cinematic offering this year.

We’ve compiled a quick list of 8 testosterone fuelled flicks from 2016 that are definitely worth the watch. These flicks had the perfect balance between showing muscle and having heart.

1) Desierto

What begins as a hopeful journey to seek a better life becomes a harrowing, primal fight for survival when a deranged, rifle-toting vigilante chases a group of unarmed men and women through the treacherous U.S.-Mexican border. In the harsh, unforgiving desert terrain, the odds are stacked firmly against them as they continuously discover there's nowhere to hide from the unrelenting, merciless killer.

A sympathetic woman forms a strong bond with an investment banker who recently lost his wife in a car accident.

3) Blood Father

John Link is an ex-convict who fights to protect his estranged daughter from the drug cartel that is hunting her down. John must use his connections from his past and his skills as an ex-criminal to keep him and his daughter alive.

4) Hell or High Water

Rating: 5/5

A divorced father and his ex-con brother go on a small-time bank-robbing spree to save their late mother's house from being foreclosed by the bank but even as their own fractious relationship threatens to corrode their entire enterprise, a pair of Texas Rangers come ever closer to catching up with them.

5) Hacksaw Ridge

Rating: 4/5

WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss, who served during the Battle of Okinawa, refuses to kill people, and becomes the first man in American history to receive the Medal of Honor without firing a shot.

6) Deepwater Horizon

Rating: 4/5

The true story of the offshore drilling rig Deepwater Horizon, which exploded during April 2010 leading to the death of 11 crew members and the worst oil spill in U.S. history.

7) Nerve

Industrious high school senior, Vee Delmonico (Emma Roberts), has had it with living life on the sidelines. When pressured by friends to join the popular online game Nerve, Vee decides to sign up for just one dare in what seems like harmless fun. But as she finds herself caught up in the thrill of the adrenaline-fueled competition partnered with a mysterious stranger (Dave Franco), the game begins to take a sinister turn with increasingly dangerous acts, leading her into a high stakes finale that will determine her entire future.

8) Jason Bourne

Jason Bourne, the CIA's most lethal former operative who went underground, is drawn out of the shadows.
