Cape Town - The poster for David Fincher's adaptation of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo features a topless Rooney Mara.

The movie's star bares her breasts while wrapped in the arm of James Bond actor Daniel Craig, her co-star who portrays journalist Mikael Blomkvist in the film. The latest version of The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo is directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker David Fincher (The Social Network, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button).

While the tattoo in question is not visible in the poster, glimpses of other tattoos and piercings are on show.

The poster also features the release date along with the tagline "Evil shall with evil be expelled".

Mara plays Lisbeth Salander, a fearless but tormented hacker in the thriller based on the first book in Stieg Larsson's best-selling Millenium series. The role had previously been played by Swedish actress Noomi Rapace to huge acclaim in a Swedish-language trilogy of films: The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, The Girl Who Played With Fire, and The Girl Who Kicked the Hornet's Nest.

This NSFW poster shown below comes just a week after the release of the approved for all ages trailer.

The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo is due in US cinemas on December 21 and in South Africa on January 6 .
