Los Angeles - Isla Fisher is reportedly in talks to star in The Great Gatsby.
The 35-year-old Australian actress is in discussions to take on the pivotal role of Myrtle Wilson in Baz Luhrmann's big screen 3D adaptation of American author F. Scott Fitzgerald's 1925 book, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
In the story Isla's potential character, who is married, has an affair with the wealthy Tom Buchanan - the husband of Daisy Buchanan, who is being played by Carey Mulligan - and her tragic fate leads to the book's ending.
Affleck out
If the Confessions of a Shopaholic actress does land the part she will be joining an all-star cast which includes Leonardo DiCaprio as Jay Gatsby and Tobey Maguire, who has been confirmed to play the narrator Nick Carraway.
However, Ben Affleck will not be starring in the film.
The Oscar winner had reportedly been up for the role of Tom Buchanan but he has withdrawn himself from the project because its schedule - and the fact it is being shot in Australia - clashes with his next directorial effort Argo, which centres around the 1979 Iran hostage crisis.
