London - Madonna's directorial effort W.E. will have its world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.
The drama, a two-tier tale about the life of Britain's King Edward VIII and his American wife Wallis Simpson, and a modern day woman called Wally, is the first feature debut by the 52-year-old star and will screen out of competition at the event in September.
Included in the competition line-up are Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Andrea Arnold's new adaptation of classic tale Wuthering Heights.
'Great adventure'
Black Swan director Darren Aronofsky will chair the competition jury to win the prestigious Golden Lion Award.
Abbie Cornish, Oscar Isaac and James Fox, star in Madonna's movie, which she has previously claimed has been a "great adventure" to make.
She said: "'W.E. is about the nature of true love, and the sacrifices and compromises that are often made.
"I've wanted to tell this story for a very long time, and bringing it to life has been a great adventure for me."
The film has been acquired by The Weinstein Company, but there is no current concrete release date.
