Cape Town - Idols SA judge Somizi Mhlongo couldn’t contain his excitement when his mother actress Mary Twala was honoured for her contribution to the performing arts.

The honour The Order of Ikhamanga in Silver is the highest in the land and is bestowed by state President Cyril Ramaphosa.

While expressing how proud he is of his mother, the choreographer who has achieved so much in the same field felt he still has a long way to go.

"Proud son. If I can achieve a quarter of what my mom has in the arts, I would have made it," he said.

Mary, best known by her character name MaMpinga, has been in many productions such as Skwizas, Molo Fish, Hlala Kwabafileyo and Muvhango to mention a few.
