Johannesburg - Cardi B announced her split from Migos rapper Offset last week and it has not been without controversy.

The I Like It rapper released a video on her Instagram page announcing that her and her baby daddy will be divorcing soon – to which her husband responded, “Y’all won” in the comments.

Some fans of the couple, however, believed that the sudden break up was a publicity stunt by the couple to promote Offset’s upcoming album but Cardi was having none of it and took to Instagram again to set the record straight.

“We fell in love with each other,” she explained in the live video which was posted on Sunday night.

“Things was not always gravy because at the end of the day we are two different people.”

She added, “I really don't like how people say my and my husband – whatever he is right now to me – is doing it for publicity,(sic)" she said.

“I wouldn't put my family in a bad name for no f--king publicity, 'cause at the end of the day, ten years from now, my daughter, she's gonna be looking at these types of things and she's gonna be asking me about these type of things.”

Cardi went on to speak about how people said that her and Offset had moved too fast in their relationship.

“A lot of people are saying I moved too fast, maybe I did maybe I didn’t, I don’t know,” she admitted. “But, you know, sh*t happens. People fall in love, people get married, people have kids. I don’t regret anything ‘cause at the end of the day I have my daughter and she’s beautiful, gorgeous, funny, I love her. It’s the best thing, I learned a lot.”

Prior to Cardi’s live video, Offset tweeted about how much he missed his ex-partner.

“F** y’all I Miss Cardi”

This sparked the rumours that the break-up could’ve been a stunt.
