Cape Town – John Legend is speaking out and addressing Felicity Huffman's sentence following the college admissions scandal.
The Desperate Housewives actress was sentenced on Friday to 14 days in jail for paying bribes to help her daughter gain admission to a prestigious American university. She is one of 50 people involved in the scandal – another is Full House actress Lori Loughlin.
In a thread on Twitter, John Legend commented on Felicity's sentence writing, "No one in our nation will benefit from the 14 days an actress will serve for cheating in college admissions."
The All of Me singer, who is an advocate for criminal justice reform, wrote, "I get why everyone gets mad when rich person X gets a short sentence and poor person of colour Y gets a long one. The answer isn't for X to get more; it's for both of them to get less (or even none!!!) We should level down not up."
"Americans have become desensitized to how much we lock people up. Prisons and jails are not the answer to every bad thing everyone does, but we've come to use them to address nearly every societal ill," he said.

John recently got into a twar after President Donald Trump called him and Chrissy Teigen out for pretending to stand for criminal justice reform but doing no work towards the cause.
The singer clapped back tweeting, "Imagine being president of a whole country and spending your Sunday night hate-watching MSNBC hoping somebody-anybody--will praise you. Melania, please praise this man. He needs you."
He then redirected users to FREE AMERICA – the campaign he's spearheading to transform America's criminal justice system.
