Cape Town - Kendall Jenner may be "selective" about the number of runways that she walks a year, but it seems her comments have not gone down well with her fellow models.

The reality-TV-star-turned-model told Love Magazine that she doesn’t walk the runway as much as her peers because it can be "overwhelming."

"Since the beginning we’ve been super selective about what shows I would do," the 22-year-old said in an interview.

"I was never one of those girls who would do like 30 shows a season or whatever the fuck those girls do. More power to 'em. But I had a million jobs, not only catwalks but everything else. The whole combination was very overwhelming and I started to freak out a little bit and needed to take a step back," Kendall said, adding that she "was on the verge of a mental breakdown."

Kendall's comments haven’t gone down well with her fellow models who have labelled her, amongst other things, as lazy.

Victoria’s Secret model Jac Jagaciak wrote on her Insta Stories: "This makes me so angry. So disrespectful to literally 99% of people in the industry — yes, they had to work their way up. Please get in touch with the real world!"

Her comments were echoed by Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition stunner Vita Sidorkina, who wrote: “Maybe ‘those girls’ need to pay their bills that’s why they are doing 30 shows? No words…"

Kendall, who was in 2017 was named the highest paid model with $22m (R317m), also received backlash from runway veteran Daria Strokous, who pointed out how 30 runways was actually a low number in comparison to the amount of work most models do.

"… Whatever the f—k those girls do’ is do their very best to make their way up AND try to make some money so that they can provide for themselves and their families. Oh, and it’s 70 shows a season by the way and we are all f—king proud of every single one of the girls that did it. (sic)"

Following the industry backlash, Kendall’s representatives released a statement to PageSix saying the model’s comments were taken out of context by the magazine. “She realised the number of shows some models walk a season is closer to 80," the rep explained. "The point was that it’s their path and ‘the more power to them.’ She admires their hard work and dedication. It’s an accomplishment."
