Los Angeles - Marvel is reportedly in tense negotiations with the cast of The Avengers 2.
The Disney-owned movie studio has yet to secure key actors including Robert Downey Jr, Scarlett Johansson and Chris Hemsworth for the sequel to last year's smash hit superhero blockbuster - which grossed $1.5 billion worldwide - as they are hoping to land big money deals, reports Deadline.
Iron Man 3 star Downey recently confirmed he was paid $50m, consisting of an upfront payment and a percentage of the film's box office profits, for The Avengers and is now reportedly spearheading efforts for his castmates to negotiate better deals for the follow-up film after some of them received just $200 000 for the first flick.
Threatening to sue
A source said: "He's the only guy with real power in this situation, and balls of steel, too. He's already sent a message that he's not going to work for a place where they treat his colleagues like shit."
Marvel, meanwhile, has allegedly responded by threatening to sue actors who have long-term contracts for multiple movies which have not been fulfilled, as well as threatening to recast roles.
Lead stars including Downey, Hemsworth, Johansson, Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner and Samuel L Jackson are still in negotiations for the movie, while it's thought Captain America actor Chris Evans signed on for the flick when he agreed to make Captain America: The Winter Soldier, which is due next year.
