Cape Town - American singer R. Kelly has been arrested by The New York Police Department on sex trafficking charges, according to TMZ.
The arrest took place in Chicago, and the controversial artist is expected to return to New York for trial according to Variety.
Assistant United States attorney in the Northern District of Illinois, Joseph D. Fitzpatrick told The New York Times that the artist was arrested on a 13-count federal indictment.
"The indictment includes charges of child pornography, enticement of a minor, and obstruction of justice," Fitzpatrick explained.
The 52-year-old's arrest comes after he was apprehended on a slew of sexual abuse charges earlier this year.
In May, the I Believe I Can Fly singer was charged with 11 counts of sexual assault in Illinois — charges that carry a mandatory minimum of six years in prison.
In February, R. Kelly was also charged with 10 counts of aggravated criminal sexual abuse involving four victims, three of whom were underage.
Kelly has pleaded not guilty in both cases and vigorously denied any wrongdoing.
