Taylor Swift is gearing up to re-record her classic songs and here's why

Cape Town - Multiple Grammy award-winning artist Taylor Swift is gearing up to release her new album, Lover, on Friday, 23 August.

Ahead of the new release, Taylor is doing a series of interviews and promotional performances. One of those interviews is being aired on CBS Sunday Morning, two days after Lover comes out.

In a sneak peek of the chat – released to the media and as first reported by The Hollywood Reporter – Taylor tells interviewer Tracy Smith that she plans to head back into the studio to re-record her previous albums.

This is a big deal because of why the singer is doing it. Let us explain: Earlier this year music mogul Scooter Braun purchased Taylor's former record label, Big Machine, through his company, Ithaca Holdings. By buying the record label, Scooter also bought the masters of all of Taylor's first six albums. Owning the masters of Taylor's songs means that any money that is made from the downloading, playing or performing of those tracks goes to Scooter's company instead of Taylor.

Scooter bought the label for a reported $300 million.

Kelly Clarkson suggested that Taylor re-record the masters in a tweet, to overcome the ownership issue, and even said that she would "buy all of the new versions just to prove a point". So we guess Taylor followed Kelly's advice and plans to give us new versions of hit songs like Love Song and You Belong With Me.
