Cape Town – Mike ‘The Situation’ Sorrentino was sentenced to 8 months in prison for tax evasion.

The Jersey Shore star appeared in court in Newark, New Jersey on Friday, where a judge ordered him to less than a year in prison followed by two years of supervised release, 500 hours of community service, a $10 000 fine and $123 000 in restitution, which has already been paid, E! News reports.

Mike’s brother, Marc Sorrentino was sentenced to 24 months in prison, a $7 500 fine and restitution to be determined at a later date.

Following the sentencing, Mike – who was supported at the courthouse by his fiancée, Lauren Pesce, as well as his Jersey Shore cast mates – shared a message to his fans on social media.

Alongside three photos of his courthouse appearance, Mike wrote: “We are very happy to put this behind us. Thank you So much for all the Love & Support”

The 36-year-old has not yet commented on how his jail sentence will affect the filming of Jersey Shore: Family Vacation - a new reunion series broadcast on E! Entertainment (DStv 124).

According to People magazine Mike has between 30 to 60 days to surrender, during which he plans to marry Lauren.

The reality star’s attorney, Henry Klingeman said in a statement: “No matter what happens, he won’t be designated to begin his sentence until sometime after that wedding.”
