Ruby Rose, the star of CW's Batwoman, has quit the show after just one season.

The 34-year-old made history as the first openly gay superhero to headline a television series. After her casting, the actress faced a lot of backlash, forcing her to delete her Twitter account.

In 2019 the Orange Is the New Black actress revealed that she sustained severe injuries on the set of the show and underwent emergency surgery after an injury left her facing possible paralysis.

In a statement Ruby said: "I have made the very difficult decision to not return to Batwoman next season. This was not a decision I made lightly as I have the utmost respect for the cast, crew and everyone involved with the show in both Vancouver and in Los Angeles."

Deadline reports that the role will likely be recast for the second season.
