Cape Town - The Bold and the Beautiful might be going off air in South Africa in March according to tvplus.

Making the announcement on their Facebook page the magazine said: "SABC3 has pulled the plug on long-time soapie The Bold And The Beautiful. The last air date for the soapie is Friday 1 March."

They further added that the reason given by SABC 3’s management is that "the investment performance in the slot does not make business sense to continue with such a property on the schedule, hence the cancellation".

The SABC has been broadcasting the soapie for the past 29 years.

According to the SABC 3 website, since The Bold and the Beautiful’s premiere on March 23 1987, the show has become the most-watched soap-opera in the world with an audience of an estimated 26.2 million.

It moved from SABC 1 to SABC 3 in 2013 where it has aired since from 18:30 - 19:00 daily.

Speaking to DRUM, SABC 3's publicity coordinator Doulha Domingo said that the SABC are still in talks and the cancellation has not yet been finalised.

"The ultimate decision will not come from the channel but from SABC cooperate and we will keep our viewers updated on the process as it continues," she said.
