Cape Town - An online petition to bring back actress Moshidi Motshegwa back on The River is slowly gaining momentum.

The petition follows her announcement that her contract on the popular 1Magic Telenovela was not renewed and the allegations she made that her contract was not renewed due to her dispute with management.

In a recent interview with DRUM the veteran actress revealed that she had a difficult relationship with her on screen daughter Larona Moagi and her executive producer Gwydion Beyon.

"It was a relationship breakdown. I had gone meetings with him about scripts and Gwydion to stop being cruel to Larona and she added that, "It was difficult to work with Larona", because she felt that Larona was not experienced enough.

The petition which was started by Thanduxolo Mantakana to get back the star back on the show and now has over "seven hundred signatures and nearing its ultimate goal of one thousand signatures.

The petition’s description states many other South African’s who love the character Malefu on the show do not care about the "behind the scene politics" they just want the character back on the show,

"None of us are interested in behind-the-scenes politics. Moshidi is a great actress and her character Malefu was too central to be written out for no reason. She was prepared to stay for another season and a commitment was made to that effect, only to be retracted later," the description for the petition reads.

Malefu’s fans who have signed the petition, shared their thoughts on why they signed the petition, with one saying, "The River is no longer the same without Moshidi".

The River's producer said, "As a channel 1 Magic we are fully supportive of The River", says Philly Kubheka, head of PR an publicity for Mnet local channels.

"We entrust the writers and producers of each show to give the best content and their discretion on story lines and characters is well informed."

At the 13th annual Saftas held earlier this month Moshidi won the award for Best Actress in a Telenovela for her role in The River
