Serena Williams will have royal backing at Wimbledon as she goes for a record equalling 24th Grand Slam title, Daily Mail reports.

The 37-year-old American will meet Simona Halep in the final which takes place on Saturday at SW19.

Ahead of the clash, the Royal family have confirmed that her friend, Meghan Markle the Duchess of Sussex will be in attendance along with sister-in-law Kate, the Duchess of Cambridge, Harpers Bazaar revealed.

Speaking on her friendship with the former suits-actress-turned-royal, Serena revealed that she was always available for her.

“She couldn’t be a better friend to me,” the mom of one year old daughter Olympia said. “Low moments, high moments —she’s always there.”

Serena also admitted that she does not read articles related to Meghan, including the furore around the royal attending a Wimbledon match earlier this week.

Media reports emerged during that week that one of her security guards had asked a media consultant, not to photograph the royal during the event because she was attending in a “private capacity”.

"Any time I see her name attached to anything, I don't read it,” Serena said.
