Popular American filmmaker, Tyler Perry recently revealed that he does not have a writer’s room and that he writes the scripts to all his shows by himself.

Making the revelation on Monday, the 50-year-old posted a Twitter video in which he can be seen panning the camera over a stack of scripts for some of his hit-shows such as The Have and the Have Nots as well as Tyler Perry’s House of Payne.  He can also be heard saying all sows have 10-12 writers before boasting about his work ethic.

“I don’t know if you know this, but all shows on television have a writers room. And most of the time there are 10 people, 12, whatever, that write on these television shows. Well, I have no writers room. Nobody writes any of my work. I write it all. Why am I telling you this? I wrote all of these scripts by myself in 2019. What’s my point? Work ethic!,” he says.

But many Twitter users were not impressed by this and soon criticized his films for being one-sided and not diverse, while others said he should employ black writers to open up the industry.

This revelation also fueled the ongoing accusations from some Twitter users who allege that he always potrays black woman as bitter, difficult and suffering at the hands of black men in his films.

But according to The Oprah Magazine, Perry’s films are inspired by his rough childhood and seeing the women around him being constantly hurt.

“This entire journey of telling stories was born out of pain, born out of heartache, born out of being an abused kid who could go inside of his head and create a world and imagination," he told the publication.

"That same abused kid watching his mother…getting beat and there's nothing he can do, my desire and heart to make her laugh and feel better was so strong. And you know, if I could make a joke or if I could imitate her or my aunt and make her laugh, or some of the women she played cards with on Friday nights, all of that was so powerful and so important to me," he added.
