When Durban-born identical twins Neliswa and Anele Mxhakaza were eliminated from Idols SA’s ninth season, viewers shared in their agony. The show’s avid followers believed so much in the pair that an online petition was lodged to bring back the then matriculants to the show immediately. Even though the campaign failed to get them back on the show, it got the twins a fair amount of publicity – their social media following grew substantially and they featured on Zahara’s 2013 album Phendula.
More recently though, on their Facebook group page, the twins made an emotionally charged mash-up of late gospel singer Sfiso Ncwane’s hits. The moving tribute reminds one of their raw talent, so much so it’s hard not to think that these two are on the brink of taking over the music industry.
