Cape Town - Local artist Babes Wodumo has responded to public concern after a photo allegedly showing the gqom artist appearing worryingly thin went viral.
The photo launched Babes and her boyfriend Mampintsha to the top of Twitter trends on Wednesday.
Amidst growing public concern, Lorna Maseko tweeted: "I really pray she has people that love her and will carry her out of this mess - honestly." "Her personal issues have only ruined her name but not her talent. That, you can never take from her," rapper Cassper Nyovest shared on Twitter.
Channel24 reached out to Babes' sister Nonduh Simelane as well as West Ink Records to verify the authenticity of the photo, but no comment was available at the time of publishing.
On Wednesday evening, Babes reacted to the social media outcry, tweeting to her 1 million followers: "Pray for me."
The pinned tweet garnered thousands of replies from concerned fans.
In a second tweet, she said: "Be yourself," accompanied by the viral images, which puts the artist's worryingly frame on full display.
Her third and final tweet read: "People will judge me when I'm dead."
In 2019 the couple's tumultuous relationship took centre stage in 2019 after video footage of a man, who appeared to be musician Mampintsha, assaulting a woman, who appeared to be Babes, surfaced
The pair agreed to go for relationship counselling following the incident and subsequently rekindled their relationship.
