Cape Town - Rapper Emtee is engaged to the mother of his two children, Nicole Kendall Chinsamy.
The Roll-Up rapper took to his Instagram Stories to share the news by posting a picture of Nicole’s hand adorned with a diamond ring on her ring finger.
Speaking to DRUM, Emtee said that the couple got engaged on Sunday in Ghana where they were attending the AFRIMA Awards.
“We got engaged on Sunday in Ghana. I had a nice dinner planned for her by the pool side at the hotel we were staying at and that’s when I popped the question.”
Emtee also said Nicole was his soulmate and that’s why he asked her to be his wife.
“She was surprised, and she kept blushing but I had to do it because she’s my soulmate, no one else comes up.”
In a 2017 interview with DRUM Emtee expressed his desire to marry Nicole.
“I want to marry her and I feel like it will happen sooner rather than later.”
Nicole, however, at the time wanted to wait until she’s completed her studies before walking down the aisle.
“It’s not that I don’t want to, but I want to be independent before I marry,” said Nicole, who wants to start her own clothing line after her studies.
It’s this quiet dedication that drew Nicole to Emtee when they first met in 2012.
In an interview with DRUM Nicole said: “We met through a friend. Unlike the other guys, he wasn’t pretending to be something that he was not.”
“He didn’t have much at the time [but] I fell in love with him. It really was love at first sight.”
The attraction was mutual as Emtee couldn’t stop thinking about Nicole, who was a matric student at Waverley Girls’ High School in Johannesburg.
“She wasn’t like any of the other girls. She was reserved and the amount of cultural diversity she has grown up under also attracted me.”
And the fact that she is mixed-race (Nicole’s mother is coloured and her father is Indian), attracted the rapper even more.
“She is Mandela’s dream, a rainbow nation. She’s family-orientated and beautiful. I thought ‘I will marry this one’,” Emtee said with a broad smile.
Six years on, he has finally proposed to his sweetheart.
