Cape Town - On Monday, new boy band 047 released their 12 track debut album Wen Ungowami.
The trio – Ngcali Nundu (20), Sihle Mdaka (22), and Lihle Baleni (21) – had planned to write, record and release their debut album a month ago but were slightly delayed because they took longer to recover from the hijacking that happened in Melville, Johannesburg, while driving with singer and their mentor Vusi Nova.
“We are from ekasi and we are used to these types of things happening but when it happened, it shocked us and we needed to hold the recording for a few weeks in order to gather ourselves and that is why we took a little longer to release,” says Sihle.
“Thank goodness we got out of it alive. That day encouraged us to push more, work harder and to appreciate the small things in life.”
The band's career began in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape where they sang for fun. However, when the group moved to Johannesburg to study, their dream of becoming recording artists came to fruition.
“For us, music is something we have always done; we don't see it as a job that is why we still go to school.”
The young stars say they will never stop studying even if they were to be rich and famous. “Education is important; it molds you and we try to keep a balance between music and school.”
