Musician Zahara’s fans are reportedly livid that isiXhosa radio station UMhlobo Wenene has snubbed their favourite artist Zahara.

According to a report by TshisaLive, upon her two-month return from an overseas tour Zahara was bombarded with messages from unhappy fans enquiring about not hearing her music on UMhlobo Wenene anymore.

Zahara assured the publication that it had nothing to do with her break up with UMhlobo Wenene personality Amaza Ntshangana. The pair dated until they got engaged but things went south, and they went their separate ways in 2016.

"He would never have a say on whether my music is played or not. He is a good man. He would never do such a thing. Besides, he would be in serious trouble if he did that," she was quoted saying.

When Move! asked the SABC about the matter, SABC spokesperson Vuyo Mthembu could not confirm nor deny if it was really true that she’s been side-lined by the station. However, she confirmed that this was a serious matter and the broadcaster would be looking into it.

“The SABC can confirm that it takes the allegations seriously and has instituted an investigation into the claims made, that Zahara is being snubbed by UMhlobo Wenene FM and the station has subsequently unscheduled her music on the station’s playlist. However, it must be noted that the SABC remains committed to ensuring the promotion of local music, as it delivers on its mandate as a public service broadcaster,” she said.

Zahara could not be reached for comment at the time of publishing.
