Anele Zondo put everything on hold to make sure her EP sounds good for her fans

Wake up! Ney The Bae is here.

She knows you might have thought she was going to drop one hot song and struggle to back it up. But she is here, and she intends to be here for a while so buckle up before she gets in motion, and you get lost in her sauce.

Speaking to Drum, actor, singer, and presenter Anele Zondo says she is in a phase in her life where she sees the power of her second name which is Nozipho. All her gifts are coming to fruition, and she is open to sharing all her gifts with the world until she becomes one of the pioneers in the entertainment industry.

Preferring the term musician, she came in hot with a beautifully crafted single that introduced her music career and since then she has been contributing to the rap game with nice verses that are very palatable. She started as a girl who used social media to her advantage when she was selling wigs for money while studying. Then the media graduate appeared on small screens launching her acting career, and now Ney The Bae is a booked presenter and MC while finding time to be in the studio working on her EP titled ‘YTYKM’ that will be released in May.

“There are plenty of surprises this year. Some things have even shocked me even though I have put in work to achieve them. What I wish to do this year is expand my potentiality, and to really exploit it this year and make sure that in years to come I can still do what I love.”

She says when her hit song ‘Ingwe’ came out she had worked on her music career a year before the release as she was preparing to take out music. Now with the EP she feels it has been a long time coming and was giving people a teaser on songs like Amaqhwa and her recent freestyle that turned into a hit song ‘Itching’ featuring Maglera Doe Boy.

“To think about my music journey, I had one of my high school friends reminding me that I was part of a rap group or that I used to sing in a choir and the fact that my dad was big in music. Music has always been there, but after dropping Ingwe, I thought this could be turned into something good. At the time I had recorded a lot of songs then I had to choose. And the success of the song made me feel like this is where I am supposed to be.”

Understanding her lifestyle, she had to think long and hard about making it a career and now that it is coming together, she is ready to add some freshness into the music scene. Her EP won’t be a solely hip-hop EP, but it will be a musical showcase where she is exploring and experimenting.

Ney says she has put a lot of things on hold to work on the music just to make sure that she is in the right head space to produce quality music.

“I have taken a step back from a lot of things to make sure that I can put something that will make people respect me as a musician. The EP has a lot of African sounds and, a good mood and it is a no-skip EP. I featured quite a few of my favourite artists, some of who are female and are doing great things in their music careers. I am very excited for people to hear it and transform with me in sound. I have done a good transformation in my TV career, in the fashion world and now is the time for people to move with me sonically. I have put together different elements that will tell my story throughout the EP.”

In this EP she says she sings a lot about what is happening in her life, and she is excited, and she was very intentional with whom to work because of the energy and synergy they had.

“We are bringing a fresh energy. People never heard this and will be blown away; this is the moment where they will want to be. Everyone put their best foot forward to bring this fresh and fly energy. I worked with an amazing team in the studio who assisted me in articulating certain points that I want to get to in terms of writing melodically, saying things the way I want to say them, and coming up with concepts is my natural nag. I know how to tell stories.”

When the music takes off, the attention will be on the Baes. Neu says she is working hard to make sure that people consume her in different ways.

“The plan is for people to wear me from head to toe. I am launching my basics brand, which is an essential brand, it is going to have everything I believe the Baes need to have. I have been hard at work making sure I get closer to the finish line, and I am excited to be launching that.”
