Tiger King's Joseph Maldonado-Passage, better known as Joe Exotic, wasn't messing around when he said he'd be taking action.
In an interview with Netflix from prison, the former zoo owner said: "I'm done with the Carole Baskin saga. It's now time to turn the tables, and Joe get out of jail a free man and exonerated from all these charges (sic)."
As documented in the popular Netflix docu-series, Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness, the 57-year-old is currently serving a 22-year sentence for hiring a hitman to take out his longtime rival, animal rights activist, Carole Baskin, and killing five tigers at his Oklahoma zoo.
He is currently in the process of appealing the 2019 the conviction though. According to E! News, who obtained court documents, Joe is suing the U.S. Federal Wildlife Service, the United States Department of the Interior and his former business partner and current owner of his zoo, Jeff Lowe.
The document shows he is seeking "$73 840 000 in damages and an additional $15 000 000 for false arrest, false imprisonment, discrimination, malicious prosecution, selective enforcement, misinterpreting the law and the death of [his mother] Shirley Schreibvogel" totalling $88 840 000 (an estimated R 1.7 billion).
Joe also recently wrote a handwritten letter to the judge on his case requesting an extension to file an objection in the civil case. The court granted his request.
According to Dillon Passage, Joe's husband, he is out of quarantine where he was being held and has been transferred to a special housing unit in the prison.
