Taylor Swift released her directorial debut on Thursday, with the music video for her song The Man in which she stars as, quite literally, the man.

In heavy prosthetics and convincing drag, the 30-year-old highlights various aspects of society's systematic sexism throughout the video as an obnoxious man who skates through life to success thanks to the privilege of his sex.

We took a closer look at the video which has already amassed over eight million views on YouTube alone, to examine all the ways in which Taylor is telling the world that the time for these ridiculous double standards is over.

HERE ARE 5 EASTER EGGS YOU MIGHT HAVE MISSED IN TAYLOR SWIFT'S NEW MUSIC VIDEO:

*Just a quick definition: In this context, an Easter egg is a hidden message.

1. 'No scooters' and album title references in the graffiti

Near the start of the video, 'The Man', pees in public and not in bathroom (which is actually illegal). And if you look closely and you’ll see the graffiti on the wall features the names of all of Taylor's albums including Red, 1989 and Speak Now

And if you look even closer you'll see a red traffic sign that reads 'no scooters allowed' along with another sign that says 'MISSING – Please return to Taylor Swift'.

This is a reference to the chart topping star's ongoing dispute with music mogul Scooter Braun, who infamously bought her back catalogue for $300 million when he acquired her former label Big Machine Label Group.

2. 13th Street Station

Also, in the first half of the video, you can see that the subway station is marked as 13th Street Station – a reference to the Love Song, singer's favourite number, which is 13.

3. Loren Grey and Taylor's dad make a cameo

In a scene seemingly referencing the fact that Serena Williams was recently disciplined for calling out an umpire, while men like Nick Kyrgios easily get away with temper tantrums (see Taylor's tweet about having a 'mantrum' here) on court the protagonist loses his cool on court and smashes his tennis racket.

As 'The Man' breaks his racket and throws a ball at the umpire, you see a ball girl, played by the most followed person on Tik Tok, Loren Grey. Taylor's dad (Scott) also makes a cameo as the umpire!

4. The Rock's voice

At the end of the video we see Taylor playing herself and directing the scene on the tennis court; offering advice to 'The Man' "to be sexier" and "more likeable" next time advice that the star has received throughout her career from a slew of men both in writing and on social media.

Then there's a voice that responds to that note and if you recognise it from your Fast and Furious dreams, that's because it is none other than Dwayne 'The Rock Johnson.

5. Mr Americana

In a moment so quick you might have missed it, we briefly see a poster for a documentary starring Tyler Swift, called Mr Americana – a reference to Taylor's recent Netflix documentary Miss Americana.

SEE THAT POSTER HERE:

Of course there are hundreds of other references, that I could find but I'll cut myself off here.
