Right now, especially in-between public holidays, it's easy to get stuck in a rut of listening to the same old songs over-and over again. 

There's nothing wrong with that, do what you need to do to get through the day, but if you are looking for something new (and want to support local artists) then I've rounded up five fresh releases to listen to. There are also fun facts about each song to give you something to mention during the next Zoom chat. 

It's a list that spans genres and artists so there should be something for everyone here. 

HERE ARE 5 COOL FACTS ABOUT 5 NEW SONGS: 

1. Black Coffee and Sabrina Claudio – SBCNCSLY

Hit music producer extraordinaire, Black Coffee is back with new music, featuring international singer Sabrina Claudio and it sounds like a hit! 

Fun fact: We all that worldwide tour dates and a performance at Coachella currently on hold, so to keep the music playing Black Coffee has been performing live from his home for a series of Saturdays as a fundraising effort to support Covid-19 relief charities. The most recent show happened on Saturday.

2. Mikhaela Faye – Bullshit

One of our favourite new artists released her debut album on Friday and one of the new tracks Bullshit, really caught my attention. 

Fun fact: According to Mikhaela her latest release, Not Now. Later is : "is a screenshot of my life on somebody else’s phone."

3. December Streets – Haters

Another burst of local flavour comes from December Streets, who dropped their new single, Haters on Friday. This pop track is poised to get stuck in your head and get lots of radio play. 

Fun Fact: This song is more than just a catchy bop. It carries an important message.

According to frontman Tristan Coetzee: "This is one of my favourite tracks we've written. Haters combines all the groovy rhythms with a powerful message of solidarity between outliers, sandwiched in a confident, care-free vibe.

4. ZYO featuring Mathew Gold - Dockside Days

Sliding into our atmosphere, futuristic electronic dance outfit; ZYO is back on the music radar with his new single Dockside Days.

Fun fact about this collaboration, according to Mathew Gold: "I met ZYO in Dockside on a planet a few moons away from the sun. He told me he wanted to drop his 3rd song on planet earth and I never hesitated. We must give the people what they want". 

The local artist is working on his new album and on the lookout for new talent to collaborate with.

5. Kekelingo, Ami Faku – Khonza

New artist, Kekelingo, has released his debut single as a solo artist. It features popular recording artist Ami Faku, and it is titled Khonza.

Fun fact: According to a statement released to the press, Khonza is "sung in language called kekelingo which is Kekelingo’s own spiritual language expressed and sung through chant, with no meaning but translates through the emotion of feeling."
