The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have had a rather tumultuous start to 2020.

After announcing their desire to step down as senior members of the royal firm in January after a long battle in the spotlight, the couple received a lot of criticism for their decision, which ultimately ended in the queen stripping them of their titles and essentially having them completely step away from the royal family.

The unprecedented decision resulted in a move to Canada, before the couple settled in Los Angeles – and now, in a new biography, royal reporters, Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand will tell their story in Finding Freedom: Harry and Meghan and the Making of a Modern Royal Family.

Discussing the book that's been two years in the making, Omid said on The Heir Pod podcast that "there have been twists and turns that no one expected".

"This is something no one expected," he said.

"I don't even think Harry and Meghan, who by their own account, struggled with the realities of the situation, expected things to turn out the way they did."

Omid insists the biography will be the "definitive version" of what happened though.

"I've been on so many engagements and around them as much as possible, and spoken to so many people in their lives, so no stone has been left unturned," he said.

"I've seen the couple remain faithful in their own beliefs and stand strong in the face of adversities which have been publicly played out in the press, and I would like to think this tells the definitive version of their lives together."

The book will hit shelves on 11 August.
